Update from Your McBoat Board

Hello Marina Tenants- 6-5-2017

Boating season is underway. Here is another update from your marina tenants advocate the McBoat Board.

The internet is here! We have had a few bumps with this revised system and would like to note the signal may be strongest in your cockpit than your cabin. The system is set to allow a maximum download of 5 Mbps per device connected. Keep in mind this will bog down on busy holidays. Not perfect but, we have a working system

Captain Paul Thielen, McBoat Board Member and Secretary is heading up a Beatification Committee and will be assembling a flower planter for each marina gate entrance. The Beautification committee volunteers are meeting this Saturday at 10 am just North of the center section bathhouse. We hope the flowers bring back some of the welcome feel from previous years.

It is our honor to announce the 1st ever Milwaukee Venetian Boat Parade the evening of August 19th at McKinley Marina. We are pleased to announce McBoat is working along with Milwaukee Community Sailing Center to promote a summer boating event in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Venetian Boat Parade can be described as an evening parade of boats brightly lit and decorated. Vessels will start to assemble in the water single file after 8:00PM. The staging area will be inside of the government pier and outside the adjacent rubble wall from the North marina entrance to the fuel dock. At 9:00pm they will proceed single file, counter clockwise with an estimated 80 feet between them. The parade will proceed inside the marina channel. Judging of the lit and decorated vessels will occur as they pass the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center. Vessels will then re-enter the staging channel from the South to decommission their lights prior to transitioning back to proper navigation lighting.

All vessels participating will down load and register their vessels prior through a link found at McBoat.org and will be available online after June 25th. Participating Captains Must attend a captains meeting at 6:00 PM at the sailing center. Participants will review the parade rules, be given an event pennant, and an 11 x 17 number to be hung on the starboard midship at the rub rail.

The main public viewing area will be at the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center where food and beverages will be stationed starting at 5:30 PM. The public will be free to tour the Sailing Center and see the benefits of membership. You are invited to stop over to enjoy libations as you take front row seat for the parade. There is a possibility of a band as well.

A judge’s stand will be located in the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center’s Wall. Entrants will be judged while passing. The 2017 parade winners will stop by for their coveted trophies. We will be following up as details solidify and trophies are gathered. Look forward to seeing you at the parade.

Lastly, we would like to let you know we are working to have some of your slip fees come back into the marina. We have a group of board members identifying the budget process in an effort to keep some dollars in the marina as done at the golf courses.

We will be in touch soon.

Enjoy Summer!

Mike Johnson 2017 McBoat President
